About the Opportunity An opportunity is available for a Shop Assistant Cashier in Selection Park, Gauteng. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, processing customer purchases accurately, maintaining stock and ensuring that the store remains clean, organised and ready for customers. This role is suited to someone who enjoys working with people, has strong attention to detail and can work efficiently in a busy retail environment. Key Responsibilities The Shop Assistant will provide friendly and professional customer service and ensure that customers have a positive shopping experience. You will accurately process customer purchases at the checkout and handle different payment methods, including cash, debit cards and credit cards. The successful candidate will assist customers with product selection and provide information about current promotions and products. You will answer customer phone calls and respond to questions and requests efficiently. The role will also involve keeping customer records accurate and up to date. You will maintain the presentation of the store by ensuring that shelves are properly stocked, products are easy to find and merchandise is displayed neatly. The Shop Assistant will replenish shelves when products run low and ensure that prices are correctly displayed throughout the store. You will assist with receiving deliveries and putting stock away correctly using relevant equipment and systems. Maintaining a clean, safe and organised store environment will be an important part of the position. The successful candidate will also help prepare the store for the following day's business and assist the manager with preparations for stock counts. You will be responsible for taking care of store equipment and ensuring that equipment is safely used and properly accounted for. The role requires strict adherence to health and safety procedures. You will also be expected to complete daily banking responsibilities efficiently and handle cash responsibly. The Shop Assistant will contribute towards achieving daily, weekly and monthly sales targets and assist with initiatives designed to reduce stock losses and improve store profitability. Requirements Applicants must have completed Matric. Previous experience in cashiering, retail, sales, customer service, store assistance or a similar customer facing role is required. Relevant experience may include working as a Cashier, Retail Sales Assistant, Store Assistant, Store Associate, Retail Salesperson, Sales Assistant or Salesperson. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in English. Applicants must live within 15 kilometres of the workplace. A clear criminal record is required. Skills and Competencies The ideal candidate should have strong customer service skills and enjoy interacting with people. Attention to detail is important, particularly when processing transactions, handling cash, checking prices and maintaining customer records. Candidates should be comfortable working in a busy retail environment and able to prioritise tasks when the checkout area becomes busy. Good communication skills and a positive attitude are essential. The successful candidate should also be reliable, organised and able to work effectively as part of a team. Application Assessment Applicants will be required to complete a Customer Centric Potential Work Performance Assessment Battery as part of the application process. Candidates may be asked how they would respond if they identified a pricing error and whether they have experience using a cash register or computer based POS system. Employment Information The position is offered on a fixed term, part time contract basis with an ongoing contract arrangement. The working schedule will be based on operational requirements and shifts will be allocated as needed. The position requires approximately 8 hours per working day. The expected start date is ASAP.
