About the Opportunity
Ivanplats (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is offering a Safety Internship Programme for suitably qualified and unemployed candidates who want to gain practical experience in the mining industry.
The programme is designed to help interns develop the knowledge, skills, attributes and values required to work confidently within a mining environment while gaining valuable experiential learning.
Ivanplats is developing its palladium, rhodium, nickel, copper and gold project in Limpopo Province near Mokopane. The project uses large mechanised underground mining methods and advanced technology.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have completed a National Diploma at NQF Level 6 or a Bachelor's Degree at NQF Level 7 or 8 in Safety Management.
Candidates must be unemployed and willing to gain practical experience within a mining environment.
Successful candidates must be medically fit to work underground and must be willing to undergo the required medical fitness examination and relevant assessments.
Applicants must be prepared to work both underground and on the surface across mining operations.
Key Responsibilities
The internship will provide exposure to Safety Management standards and the application of Sections 22 and 23 of the Mine Health and Safety Act.
Interns will assist with onsite safety inspections and participate in legal compliance activities and the Ivanplats safety framework.
The successful candidates will assist with auditing and optimisation of support systems and support the relevant Heads of Department with audit outcome requirements.
Interns will also support the team with required Key Performance Indicators while gaining practical workplace experience.
The programme will provide opportunities to conduct research within the scope of the intern's learning and as requested by supervisors.
Candidates will receive on the job shadowing opportunities across relevant Mining, Engineering, Concentrator and Services sections.
The programme will also provide rotational exposure to different mining activities, together with general safety administration and support within Safety Management.
Programme Duration
Successful candidates will be enrolled in the internship programme for a maximum period of 2 years, depending on performance.
Documents Required
Applicants must submit copies of their Grade 12 certificate, National Diploma or Degree qualification and official academic record.
Candidates must also provide a South African Identity Document, CV, certified copies of other qualifications and proof of residence.

Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South Africans and women.
