About the Opportunity The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) is inviting applications for the position of Junior Insurance Analyst – BISD in Pretoria. The successful candidate will support senior analysts in carrying out insurance sector supervisory and regulatory responsibilities. The role provides an opportunity to contribute to the supervision of insurers and insurance groups while developing practical experience in insurance regulation, financial risk assessment, corporate governance and prudential supervision. The successful candidate will work with a portfolio of insurers or insurance groups and assist in assessing financial and non-financial information, identifying risks and recommending appropriate mitigating actions. Key Responsibilities Working under the guidance and support of a senior analyst, the successful candidate will be responsible for: Processing notifications and applications of a financial and non-financial nature. Making recommendations for the approval or decline of applications in accordance with the Insurance Act 18 of 2017. Preparing and implementing supervisory plans for allocated insurers and insurance groups. Supervising insurers and insurance groups within the allocated portfolio. Using a combination of on-site and off-site supervisory tools to assess insurers. Reviewing quantitative and qualitative information to identify and assess potential risks. Proposing appropriate actions to mitigate identified risks. Preparing for and attending on-site visits. Participating in engagements under the guidance of a senior analyst or manager. Maintaining databases and accurate records containing relevant information on insurers and insurance groups. Liaising with internal and external stakeholders. Providing appropriate feedback to stakeholders following consultation with the relevant manager. Supporting the effective supervision and regulation of the insurance sector. Minimum Qualifications and Experience To be considered for this position, candidates must have: A postgraduate qualification at NQF Level 8 in one of the following fields: Finance Accounting Insurance Actuarial Science Risk Management At least two years of experience in: The insurance sector, or Insurance-related work within the broader finance sector, or A risk management environment.
