About the Programme
The Industrial Development Corporation is offering an opportunity for aspiring Chartered Accountants to join its CA Trainee Programme and complete their professional training within the Corporation.
The purpose of the CA Learnership is to develop potential Chartered Accountants by providing structured training and practical workplace experience within the IDC. The programme is designed to help trainees develop the competencies, knowledge and professional experience required to build successful careers as Chartered Accountants.
The programme also contributes to developing future high level Chartered Accountant talent and supporting the broader skills requirements of South Africa as outlined in the National Development Plan.
Successful candidates will receive formal training through practical experience while working within the IDC environment. The programme will also provide opportunities to engage with experienced professionals, gain exposure to different areas of the Corporation and develop a strong professional network.
Qualification Requirements
To qualify for the SAICA Trainee Programme, applicants must have completed or currently be enrolled in a SAICA accredited programme that allows entry into the SAICA Initial Assessment of Competence (IAC) in January 2027.
Applicants must have completed one of the following qualifications:
Certificate in Theory of Accounting (CTA)
Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting
Honours Degree in Accounting
An equivalent SAICA accredited qualification that allows entry into the SAICA Initial Assessment of Competence.
Candidates who are applying from another SAICA training office must have already passed the SAICA Initial Assessment of Competence to be considered.
Candidates who are currently completing CTA Level 1 or a BCTA, also known as a Bridging Course to CTA, are not eligible to apply.
Job Related Skills
Applicants should have a good understanding of the POPI Act and demonstrate the ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, together with excellent scheduling and time management abilities.
Candidates should have strong attention to detail and good interpersonal skills. The ability to communicate and engage effectively with both internal and external clients is important.
Successful candidates must demonstrate excellent customer relationship skills and understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality due to the nature of the work.
Innovation and creativity are also important attributes for candidates entering the programme.
Roles and Responsibilities
The CA Trainee Programme aims to develop a strong talent pipeline of future Chartered Accountants for the core business areas within the Industrial Development Corporation.
The programme provides opportunities for unemployed graduates who hold the required qualifications to develop their professional competencies and gain valuable experience within the IDC environment.
Trainees will have opportunities to network with experienced professionals, gain exposure to different areas of the Corporation and learn about the various career paths available within the organisation.
The programme is designed to help trainees develop the necessary range and depth of practical experience while building the professional capabilities required to become future business leaders.

Strong relationship building and networking skills are required, together with the ability to exercise professional judgement when managing situations and confidential information.
Candidates should demonstrate good planning and organising skills and be able to follow instructions and established procedures.
The ability to cope with pressure and setbacks is important, as is the ability to adhere to professional principles and values.
Applicants should be able to present and communicate information effectively and demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop. Being teachable and receptive to feedback is an important part of succeeding in the programme.
Technical Competencies
Applicants should have in depth knowledge of their respective field of study and a sound understanding of the Industrial Development Corporation.
Candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Microsoft Teams.
The ability to communicate and liaise effectively with stakeholders at a high level is also required.

Contract Information
Successful candidates will be appointed on a 36 month fixed term contract as part of the CA Trainee Programme.
