About the Opportunity
The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) is inviting applications for a Cashier position at its Medium Office in Wynberg, Western Cape.
This is a government employment opportunity suitable for applicants who have completed Grade 12 / Senior Certificate at NQF Level 4. The successful candidate will provide cashier and front-office services to Home Affairs clients, process payments, issue receipts and assist clients with accessing the appropriate services.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
Grade 12 / Senior Certificate at NQF Level 4 as recognised by SAQA
Knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA)
Knowledge of cashier services
Knowledge of accounting processes and procedures
Understanding of departmental legislation and Human Resources legislation and prescripts
Knowledge of the South African Constitution
Knowledge of the Public Service Regulations Act
Important: Grade 12 / Senior Certificate is the minimum educational requirement for this position.

Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Providing an effective cashier service to all Department of Home Affairs clients
Capturing transaction details onto the receipting solution
Receiving cash from applicants and issuing receipts or invoices
Endorsing applications where cash has been received
Performing cashing-up procedures at change of shift and at the end of the day under the supervision of the Cashier Supervisor
Banking cash into the ACHD under the supervision of the Cashier Supervisor
Counting the float before each shift
Keeping the cash drawer secure at all times
Ensuring accurate handling of client cash, credit payments and change
Following all front-end procedures and policies
Assisting with other front-office functions when requested by management
Providing advice to clients and directing them to the required service points
Ensuring effective risk and compliance practices are implemented
Studying relevant public service and departmental prescripts, policies and other documents
Ensuring that relevant policies and procedures are properly understood and applied
