Program Overview Bidvest Tank Terminals (BTT) is inviting applications from qualified South African youth for an Apprenticeship Programme in the Mechanical Fitter trade, based at their Durban operations. This 36-month program combines accredited theoretical learning with comprehensive practical experiential training in a modern chemical tank storage and logistics environment. Upon successful completion of all required theoretical modules and practical workplace experience, apprentices will be prepared to undergo the formal Trade Test to become qualified Mechanical Fitters. If you possess a strong technical aptitude, a solid academic grounding in Mathematics and Science, and a commitment to completing a 3-year artisan pathway, this opportunity offers an ideal launchpad into industrial plant maintenance. Key Responsibilities As a Mechanical Fitter Apprentice, your daily scope will include: Theoretical Learning: Attending structured, accredited classroom training at a designated artisan training center. Practical Workplace Training: Gaining hands-on experiential exposure at BTT Durban facilities under the supervision of experienced artisans and the Maintenance Foreman. Plant Maintenance Support: Assisting with the installation, inspection, maintenance, fault-finding, and repair of mechanical plant machinery, pumps, valves, and piping systems. Safety & Compliance: Strict adherence to departmental procedures, environmental health and safety (SHEQ) standards, and chemical plant operational regulations. Minimum Requirements To qualify for consideration, applicants must satisfy the following criteria: Citizenship: Must hold a valid South African Identity Document (South African citizen / youth). Education: Must possess at least one of the following minimum educational qualifications: Matric / Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science (passed). Matric / Grade 12 with an N2 Certificate in Mechanical Engineering. Environment Fit: Ability and willingness to work safely within a chemical plant and bulk liquid storage terminal environment. Attributes: High willingness to learn, positive attitude, punctuality, and strong commitment to completing the full 36-month trade qualification.
