Sybrin is offering an exciting opportunity for an Accounts Receivable Intern to join its Finance team in a hybrid working environment. This initial 12 month internship is designed for finance and accounting graduates or students looking to gain practical experience in Accounts Receivable, debtor management, customer collections, invoicing, payment allocations, financial reporting and finance administration.
The role provides valuable exposure to financial systems, cash flow processes, internal controls and customer account management while working under the guidance of the Finance team.

About the Accounts Receivable Internship
The Accounts Receivable Intern will support the Finance function across customer payment allocations, invoicing administration, collections, debtor follow ups, customer information management, Withholding Tax documentation and Accounts Receivable reporting.
This opportunity will allow the successful candidate to gain practical exposure to debtor management, cash flow processes, financial systems, internal controls and customer account administration.
The position is suitable for someone who has completed or is currently completing a relevant finance or accounting qualification. Candidates with some entry level Accounts Receivable or finance administration experience may also be considered.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will assist with allocating customer payments and credit notes accurately according to customer remittance advice and payment confirmations.
You will support the matching of customer payments to invoices and ensure that payment allocations are accurately reflected in the Acumatica financial system.
The role will involve assisting with identifying unallocated cash, payment discrepancies and allocation queries and escalating issues for investigation and resolution.
You will also assist with identifying and recording Withholding Tax amounts against relevant customer transactions and support the maintenance of accurate Accounts Receivable balances and monthly reconciliations.
Customer Collections
The intern will assist with collecting and following up on outstanding customer invoices according to agreed payment terms and debtor ageing.
You will communicate professionally with customers through email and telephone regarding outstanding payments and payment commitments.
The role will also involve following up on outstanding invoices and assisting customers with supporting documentation where required.
Overdue accounts, payment disputes and collection risks will be escalated to the appropriate Finance team member in accordance with internal procedures.
Withholding Tax Certificates
The successful candidate will assist with collecting Withholding Tax Certificates from customers within the required timeframes.
You will maintain accurate records of certificates received and outstanding and follow up with customers where documentation remains outstanding.
The role will also involve checking that received certificates correspond with the relevant transactions and supporting audit and compliance requirements.
Customer Information Management
The intern will assist with maintaining accurate customer contact, billing and account information within Acumatica.
You will support the maintenance of customer documentation required for invoicing, collections and financial administration.
The role may also involve assisting with finance related customer onboarding requirements, including billing information, invoicing requirements and payment terms.
Electronic records must be maintained in an organised manner to ensure documentation can be easily retrieved for internal review and audit purposes.
Debtor Follow Ups
The Accounts Receivable Intern will update debtor collection reports with accurate comments following customer interactions.
You will record payment commitments, disputes, outstanding information and agreed follow up dates promptly and accurately.
Maintaining clear and structured notes will be important to ensure customer account activity is visible and collection actions can be properly tracked.
Debtors Processes and Follow Ups
The successful candidate will perform debtor follow ups according to the latest processes and guidelines communicated by Finance management.
You will follow internal timelines and escalation procedures for overdue accounts while ensuring collection activities align with agreed collection cycles and internal Finance controls.
Expected Collection Month
The intern will assist with maintaining and updating the expected collection month for outstanding customer receivables.
You will record expected payment dates based on customer commitments and available information and assist with accurate collection forecasting.
Potential collection risks or delayed payment commitments should be highlighted to the relevant Finance team member.
Finance Administration and Reporting
The role will provide exposure to Accounts Receivable reporting, debtor ageing information and supporting financial schedules.
You will assist with month end Accounts Receivable activities where appropriate and maintain accurate Finance records and supporting documentation.
The successful candidate may also provide general Accounts Receivable administration support and participate in Finance process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must have a Matric qualification.
Candidates must have completed or currently be completing a Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, Financial Management or a related field.
Previous exposure of up to two years in Accounts Receivable, debtors, finance administration or a similar environment will be advantageous but is not necessarily required.
Basic exposure to customer invoicing, payment allocations or collections will be beneficial.
Exposure to cross border transactions, particularly within Africa, multi currency environments and Withholding Tax will be advantageous.
Experience with an accounting or ERP system will also be beneficial.
Skills and Competencies
Candidates should have strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy when working with financial information.
A basic understanding of accounting principles, Accounts Receivable processes and debtor ageing will be beneficial.
Good written and verbal communication skills are required, particularly because the role involves customer interaction.
The successful candidate should have good organisational, administrative and record keeping abilities and be able to manage multiple tasks while working within agreed deadlines.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including basic formulas, filters and data handling, is required.
Experience with Microsoft Office applications will be beneficial, while candidates should be willing to learn financial systems such as Acumatica.
The ideal candidate should be professional, responsible and customer focused, with the ability to handle financial and customer information confidentially.
Candidates should also be willing to learn, receive feedback, ask questions and develop their technical finance knowledge while working effectively as part of a Finance team.
