About the Role The Junior Actuarial Analyst provides specialist actuarial support that enables sound commercial advice and risk management. Operating within established standard operating procedures, the successful candidate will execute core production processes, run financial models, analyze multi-source data, and support product development initiatives. Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities 1. Analytics & Financial Reporting Data Preparation & Analysis: Clean, extract, and structure financial and transactional data as direct inputs into actuarial calculations and reserving models. Management Information (MI): Produce clear, concise MI reports to track business performance and assist leadership in strategic decision-making. Experience Analyses: Perform demographic, claim, and policyholder behavior experience studies to inform basis setting and pricing assumptions. 2. Product Development & Management Market & Technical Analysis: Conduct competitor evaluations and technical product reviews to identify market opportunities and support initial product design. Product Specifications: Assist in drafting formal product specifications and logic rules that align with regulatory, financial, and customer standards. 3. Actuarial Modeling & Risk Execution Run and maintain foundational actuarial models for financial reporting, reserving, and business case evaluations under direct supervision. Validate model outputs to ensure calculations align with financial accuracy and compliance requirements. Minimum Requirements Education: Completed Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science (BCom / BSc) from a recognized university. Academic Standing: Solid academic record with steady progress toward professional actuarial exemptions (ASSA / IFoA) preferred. Work Experience: Graduate / Entry-level (0 to 2 years of relevant experience). Technical Skills & Competencies Quantitative Foundations: Strong command of probability theory, statistics, financial mathematics, and investment theory. Data & Software Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; exposure to programming languages or analytical software (such as Python, R, SQL, SAS, or Prophet) is advantageous. Analytical Thinking: Ability to dissect complex numerical datasets, detect anomalies, and derive actionable financial insights. Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills to present quantitative findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
