The Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme (ISFAP) is accepting online applications for its postgraduate funding scheme. The bursary provides full financial and wrap-around support for South African students pursuing Honours, Postgraduate Diplomas, and Master’s degrees in critical skills and high-demand fields.
Bursary Coverage & Benefits
ISFAP provides comprehensive funding designed to cover the full cost of study alongside personal and academic support:
Tuition Fees: Full coverage of registration and tuition fees.
Accommodation: Full university residence or accredited private accommodation allowance.
Living Allowances: Monthly living stipend, meal allowances, and prescribed textbooks/study materials.
Wrap Around Support: Academic tutoring, peer mentoring, career readiness training, and mental health/psychosocial support.
Eligible Fields of Study
Funding is directed toward qualifications in key sectors, including:
STEM & Information Technology: Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Software Development, Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial), Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Environmental Sciences, and Agriculture.
Commerce, Accounting & Finance: Accounting (CA-stream and Internal Audit), Financial Management, Economics, Banking, Business Management, and Actuarial Science.
Health & Built Environment: Health Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Psychology, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, and Town Planning.
Public & Social Sector: Public Administration, Education, Social Sciences, and Humanities (donor/university partner dependent).

Applicants must be accepted or registered at a public ISFAP partner institution:
Gauteng: University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), University of Pretoria (UP), University of Johannesburg (UJ), Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), Vaal University of Technology (VUT), Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU).
Western Cape: University of Cape Town (UCT), Stellenbosch University (SU), University of the Western Cape (UWC), Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT).
Eastern Cape: Nelson Mandela University (NMU), Rhodes University (RU), University of Fort Hare (UFH), Walter Sisulu University (WSU).
KwaZulu-Natal: University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), Durban University of Technology (DUT), University of Zululand (UniZulu), Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT).
Free State & Northern Cape: University of the Free State (UFS), Central University of Technology (CUT), Sol Plaatje University (SPU).
Limpopo & Mpumalanga: University of Limpopo (UL), University of Venda (Univen), University of Mpumalanga (UMP).
Minimum Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the ISFAP Postgraduate Bursary, applicants must meet all the following requirements:
Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
Level of Study: Registered or accepted for an Honours, Postgraduate Diploma, or Master’s degree (Doctoral / PhD degrees are strictly excluded).
Financial Need: Must fall within the "Missing Middle" household income bracket (assessed via a background household means test).
Academic Merit: Proven strong performance in undergraduate studies.
Mandatory Supporting Documents
All uploaded documents must be clear PDF scans, with copies certified within the last 3 months by a Commissioner of Oaths or SAPS:
Identity Document: Certified copy of applicant's South African ID.
Parents/Guardians' IDs: Certified copies of IDs for parents, legal guardians, or household income earners.
Proof of Income: Latest payslips, 3 months' official bank statements, or affidavits/SASSA proof for all household contributors.
Academic Records: Official full academic transcript and undergraduate degree completion certificate.
Proof of Admission: Official university letter confirming acceptance or registration for the postgraduate program.
ISFAP Consent Form: Completed and signed consent form (available on the portal).
