About the EY Bursary Programme EY is committed to developing and transforming the Chartered Accountancy profession by supporting students from school level through university and into the workplace. The EY Bursary Programme is aimed at students who demonstrate the commitment and academic ability required to qualify as a Chartered Accountant. Successful bursary recipients will be required to work at EY for the duration of their training contract, which is a minimum of three years. Bursary Types Academic Merit with Financial Need Bursary This bursary is awarded to students who demonstrate academic merit and financial need. Depending on the student's circumstances, the bursary may cover one or more of the following expenses: Tuition fees, accommodation, books and/or meals. University Applicants University students applying for the EY Bursary Programme must submit the required supporting documentation in a combined PDF document. Applicants should provide their CV, certified South African ID, certified Matric certificate and a certified full academic record including their 2026 mid year results. Applicants must also provide their parents' payslip or an affidavit confirming proof of unemployment, together with the student's three months' bank statements. All required documents should be merged into one PDF document and uploaded under the Additional Optional Attachment section when applying. Chartered Accountancy Career Path The EY Bursary Programme provides a pathway towards a career as a Chartered Accountant. A Chartered Accountant analyses and evaluates financial information and business risks to help organisations make informed financial and strategic decisions. CA professionals play an important role in providing assurance to the market and supporting businesses in maintaining financial viability and profitability. EY Training Contract Students who eventually enter into a training contract with EY will complete a three year training period. During the first year, trainees work as assistants, gaining an understanding of clients and their businesses before progressing towards the first qualifying examination. In the second year, trainees take on greater responsibility as seniors and work towards the second qualifying examination. During the third year, trainees work as supervisors, where they may manage client assignments and supervise and coach junior trainees. After completing the required training and examinations, trainees can register with SAICA as CA(SA). Who Should Apply? This bursary opportunity is suitable for Matric learners and university students who are pursuing or intending to pursue the Chartered Accountancy stream and have the academic potential and commitment required to qualify as a Chartered Accountant.
