About the job: The CSIR has an internship opportunity in the Mandela Mining Precinct, which is hosted within the CSIR Hosted National Programmes. The purpose of this internship is to provide graduates with an opportunity to gain practical work experience through research and development of competitive technologies and innovative products under the guidance of researchers and engineers within cross-functional teams. These positions are based in Johannesburg. For more info about the Mandela Mining Precinct, please visit https://www.csir.co.za/mandela-mining-precinct Interns will be working with MMP collaborator organisation(s) as their line managers, with MMP Managers supporting. This position reports to the Rock Engineer Key responsibilities: Literature review of previous research done locally and internationally within the field of geosciences and its applications aligned to the programme; Assist and support with underground trials at various mine sites; Engage with researchers and stakeholders involved within the programme projects; Conduct research work/tasks related to technologies, as assigned by project leads/programme manager; Report on processes and results; Attend and present on results where required; Perform general administrative tasks as required by project leaders. Qualifications, skills and experience: A minimum of a BSc Honors degree in Geology or Geophysics or Physics and Mathematics; Mineral Resource Management qualification will be an advantage; Experience within the mining environment will be an added advantage; Proficient in Microsoft suite of programmes; Good numerical skills; Good attention to detail. Must have clear/no criminal record; Must have a valid South African Driver's license. All international qualifications require an evaluation report / certificate issued by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Short-listed candidates are subjected to a prescribed medical test / assessment, as it is a requirement in the mining sector.
