About the Programme The Bureau for Economic Research (BER), one of South Africa's leading economic research institutions, is inviting applications for its prestigious Economist Internship Programme 2027. Conducted in partnership with the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), this programme provides practical, hands-on training for aspiring economists looking to build successful careers in economic research, forecasting, policy analysis, and financial institutions. Successful candidates will be employed full-time by the South African Reserve Bank while spending their first year in training at the BER in Stellenbosch. The programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world economic analysis, offering exposure to high-level economic research and forecasting. Since its launch in 2006, the programme has produced economists who have gone on to work at leading financial institutions, the South African Reserve Bank, National Treasury, and other prominent research organisations.
